What: To provide 49 flashlights to 1 monk, 21 nuns, 27 families in Rdo Sbis Township
Project Location: Amdo rnga byung mchod rten jomo dgongpa nunnery, Dus akhor mchod rten, and Xunwa Village in Rdo Sbis Township, Xunhua County, Haidong Region, Qinghai Province.
Brief Description of Implementation
This project was implemented on January 29th of 2009 during the Spring Festival of Chinese New Year. People consider the New Year a very special time and great time to give others things. So this project was implemented on the fourth day of Chinese New Year. I, the project manger get 49 solar flashlights and all these flashlights were distributed to three groups: Amdo rnga byung mchod rten jomo dgongpa nunnery, nuns lives on the mountain beside the Dus akhor mchod rten, and Xunwa Villager in Rdo Sbis Township.
There are 17 nuns with the age from 24-79 years old. Some of them are from Rdo sbis Township and some others are from another county town called Dpa’ lung County. Also there are 4 nuns live at Dus akhor mchod rten near Me dbung Village. It is not a nunnery, but there are four nuns live there to take care the stupa there, and before monks also lived there taking care the Stupa. Most of them are very young and they became nuns when they got to the age of marriage. Nuns in Rdo sbis make living by chatting for families when families invite them. But unlike the monks, the chance of nuns getting invited to chat is less than the monks and nuns have difficulties to improve their living condition. Thus I choose to give one solar flashlights to each of those nuns.
Also, in Xunwa Village, there are lots of old men and women who are mostly over 70 years old, and it is very inconvenient and dangerous for them to walk in the night , especially go to the toilet in the night. So from the suggestion of my grandparents and my own experience, most of the solar flashlights were distributed to old age people in Xunwa Village.
Because of the old age, it is not very convenient for them to get together, and some of the households live far away from the center of the village. So while distributing the solar flashlights, I went to the Mani hall where old people chat scripture and gave them the flashlights and instruction. And for other people, I went house to house under my grandma’s help, and distributed the flashlights. While telling them the instruction, I was afraid that some of them are too old to remember what I said, so I told their family members about the usage of solar flashlights to make sure the solar lights are correctly used. Therefore, the solar flashlights were handed to the people who are in most need of light.
Photos of Implementing

They are the nuns from Amdo rnga byung mchod rten jomo dgongpa nunnery and there are 17 of them live in the nunnery. This picture was taken right after they got the solar flashlights, and because some of the nuns can’t present, their roommates and friends took solar flashlights for them.

The project manager Lumo Tsering is telling the nuns the usage of the solar flashlights and how to charge solar flashlights correctly.

The man on right is the oldest man in Xunwa Village, and because his eyesight is not very good, my grandma (on the left) suggest me to give him. The picture is my grandma telling him the usage again after I told him, because she is afraid that he didn’t understand me well.

One solar flashlight was given to a man called Xire, his family is being very poor compare to the other families and his family is very happy to get flashlights.

These two old people are also from Xunwa Village and I took the chance when most old people are getting together in the village Mani Hall(a public hall where villagers conduct religious affairs ) to give them the solar flashlights, in that way I don’t need to go to each the houses.

She is one of the beneficiaries of this project and this picture was also taken in the Mani hall. She said many auspicious things to me and to the donor, thanked me for doing good things in my young age.

Right after I told them the usage of this solar flashlights, these two old men is repeating the usage to each other again to make sure they understand correctly.

Her name is Tsering Tso and her family is also very poor, so her family has being work very hard to send their children to the school, and one of their grandson is already in the university on whom they have very big hope. Because they are very poor, they are very appreciative of getting the solar flashlights.

He is also old men in Xunwa Village, and even though he is very old now, he is coming to the Mani hall everyday. He told me that even though he is not going to have the chance of meeting the donor, he will pray for the happiness of the donor. He also gave me one apple to show his thankfulness.

This is my grandma on the picture, and at first I am not sure whether I am going to give her one flashlights, then when I ask her whether she need one, she said maybe it is not good for me to give flashlights to my own people, and because she is also old now, I gave her one at the end and she is very happy. Additionally she helped me a lot going to one house to another, distributing the solar flashlights and I appreciate it.
