Project location
Waku Tibetan Village is located twelve kilometers southeast of the administrative centre of Wendu Tibetan Township. It is 180 kilometers away from Xining. It is located in a valley surrounded by mountains and the villagers live in adobe-wood rooms constructed around a central rectangular-shaped open courtyard.
Brief Description of Implementation
I brought 49 solar flashlights to the Waku Village on January 24th. January 26th is the Tibetan New Year and I distributed those solar flashlights to 49 poor families in Waku Village on Eve as New Year gift. I chose 49 poor families based on their house condition, the number young people who can go out and earn family income, and the number of land and students.
After chose 49 families, my brother helped me to announce about this project to those families and come to get solar flashlights at same time altogether. I wanted to take group photos of all the project beneficiaries together at once and also I don’t need to explain the usage of solar flashlights to each of them one by one. Under my brother’s help the most families came on time and some families were out of their house at the time and were not able to come, so I brought solar flashlights to those families on the second day of New Year and told them the instruction of how to use or charge solar flashlights properly, and three families came to get the solar flashlights on the third day of New Year.
After told them the instruction of proper usage, I asked them to tell me how to use and charge them in order to make sure that they really knew the usage of solar flashlights.
Photos of the project implementation

The people on this picture are the project beneficiaries; they came to get the solar flashlights at same time. They are all very happy to receive those solar flashlights on New Year Eve as special gifts.

The project manager (HlamoTso) with blue jacket is telling the project beneficiaries the instructions of how to charge and use the solar flashlights properly. By saying how to charge the flashlights with sun, the project manager also explains about how bad it is for environment to use flashlights’ and tries to send message about the importance of protect local environment.

She is one of the project beneficiaries who couldn’t come to get solar flashlight with others at the time. Her name is Kadorl, she became disable after married to a man from nearby village and gave birth to a son. Her husband left his family and went to India, after that her husband’s family drove her away from home, so she lives alone in a small house. She couldn’t walk straightly, this made her life miserable. She is extremely happy, said “this is very small but very useful especially for me”.

Her name is Niangluo and had three young daughters with very few lands to cultivate. It’s hard task for her to manage whole family by herself without any helpers. She is very happy to receive this flashlight and the project manger is explaining her how to charge solar flashlight.

Translated Thanks Letter
Dear Thankful Donor,
I am a simple villager from Waku Village, Wendu Tibetan Township, Xunhua Salar Autonomous County, Haidong Region and Qinghai Province, and also one of beneficiaries of this project. I am representing those 49 poor families to write to you to express the thankfulness of your kind contributions to us. For those families, it’s been hard to buy flashlights economically. These solar flashlights could solve our daily problems, like during watering fields at night (because of limited water, the villagers need to watering fields only at night), during the harvesting (because of over workload and weather, villagers need to work at the night), especially convenient for children and elders to go out in dark.
Therefore, I am here representing all these project beneficiaries to thank you again and wish you achieve all your dreams and hope all of the great happiness always with you.
By Jeemay
