To provide 50 flashlights to 27 families and 23monks in Jialaxi Township to make it convenient for the people at night.

Tashi Hlamo is from Jialaxi Township, Xinlong County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Pefecture, Sichuan province. She graduated from Qinghai Normal University Nationalities Department English Training Program in January of 2008. She has been working in Shem Women’s Group since March of 2008.

Brief Description of Implementation
The project manager has implemented the project in middle of February in 2009 and it was also Losar time. She distributed 27 flashlights to 27 households in four villages (Gere, Walo, Nuri and Yajiong Villages) in Jialaxi Township. She taught the instruction of the flashlight to the beneficiaries while she distributed. The township is located in very rural place and the four villages are perched on high mountain slopes. There is no good road, not even for motorcycle in the village on the mountain slopes in summer. Therefore, the villagers have to carry every thing on their backs to transport goods (e.g. crops, water, supplies) to their homes. The four villages are farmer village and averagely each household has 10 acres of land. But the land is not fertilized on high mountain slopes and each acre of land can only produce about 80 jins of crop. So the villagers’ lives are very hard and they are very appreciative to have the flashlights.
Also, I as the project manager have distributed 23 flashlights to 23 monks with telling detailed instruction of the flashlight in Dingga hermitage where there is no electricity and it is about 15kilometers away from Jialaxi Township. The monks are from Jialaxi Township but they spend most of their time to meditate, chant, worship and pray in small rooms and the rooms are made of earth and stone in the hermitage. Their only need is to have clothes to wear and food to fill their bellies. Their clothes and food are provided by their families and they don’t have any income. Since they don’t have any income and electricity, the flashlights are very useful for them to read scriptures and cook at night without paying anything.

The project manger is distributing flashlights to each family in Yajiong and Walo village during a ritual while there are two villages getting together to hold the ritual. The old woman in the picture is wishing a success for the donor and the project manager for the future. She is 67years old and her name is Abo.

The four men in the picture are from different four families and they are very appreciative and happy to have the flashlights.

The beneficiaries are trying to use it and they are very excited to have it. They said that they have never seen that kind of flashlights. The monk in the picture is one of the hermits in Dingga and he only comes home during Losar from Dingga hermitage and sometimes he even doesn’t come home for losar because he meditates.

The old man in the picture is 72 years old and his name is A Zhen. He is saying thanks to the donor and the project manager for giving the flashlights. At that time he also said with warm smile on his face that he is going to use it for going to sleep at nig t. He used to have one but it has broken, so it is a wonderful time for him to have one flashlight.

The children in the picture are from the beneficiaries families. Among 9 children in the picture only three children are going to school. One is the boy in front with orange sweater, another is the girl who is putting her finger into her nostril and other one is the girl who is wearing a sweater with red and while color.

Dear kind donor

Our Jialaxi Township is located in Xinlong County, Ganzi prefecture, Sichuan Province. We 27 families received 27 solar flashlights and 23 flashlights were distributed to by 23monks who are always meditating in Dinga hermitage. These flashlights are very useful for the farmer villagers especially for the old people and the monks for going back and forth at night in order to be safe and convenient. Here on behalf of 27families and 23monks in Jialaxi Township, I would like to say thank you very much for your kindness and giving useful flashlights, I am also one of the beneficiaries.

Jialaxi is very rural place and there is no good traffic road. Most of the villagers are farmers and they are perched on high mountain slopes, and some villages don’t even have electricity. Generally our living condition is very poor and hard to live since it is very rural and no good income resource. So the flashlights that we have received from you are very useful for us because we don’t need to charge it by electricity and batteries and we can just charge it by sun shine without paying anything.

Both our villagers and monks appreciate your kind help, and please accept all of our best wishes for your following days and future work.
