Project Manager: Xiangba Lacuo (Phoebe)
To provide 40 flashlights to 40 households in Nor ‘ur village to reduce very basic problems.

Xiangba Lacuo is from Tsha Ra Village, Mkhar Sgng Township, Ganzi County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, PR China. She is currently working towards an associated degree in English Training Program Qinghai Nationalities Teacher’s College, Qinghai Normal University.
Projection Location
This project is located in Tsha Ra Village Mkhar Sgng Township, Ganzi County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and PR China. Mkhar Sgng Township is 30km far away from Ganzi county town and Ganzi County is located in the north east of provincial city of Sichuan; it’s about 745km away from Chengdu City. All the people in Tsha Ra Village are Tibetan. There are about 151 people of 30 households in Tsha Ra Village which consist of 60 women, 46men and 45 children.
Projection Description
I did this project during the winter holiday on the 8th of January, 2009 in Tsha Ra village. Firstly, I held a meeting in the village and told them the purpose of holding the meeting. I also told them where did I get these flash lights and why do they offer these stuffs to them. Secondly, I taught them how to use it and how long should it be set in the sun and how should it be put correctly. And I told them what is the function of flash lights, how does waterproof work. After I taught them the usage of flash lights, I wrote every person’s name from each family on a piece of paper. Then village leader was calling their names one by one, while I made sure that every body gets the fingerprint to sign on their names. Also I took pictures. Afterwards, I interviewed villagers and asked them how it helped them and what they think about flash lights. People were very happy about the thing and they said it really makes their life more convenient. This flash light project directly benefited about 116 people in Tsha Ra Village. And this flash light is a totally new thing to people and they have never seen a thing like this before. What they have used is portable torch which should be charged with batteries. And the batteries were used up very soon and lasted for short time. In that case people have to spend their cash to buy batteries for torch will be charged. People have received these flash lights which don’t need to be charged with batteries, instead they can just put it in the sun and it will be charged automatically. They are very excited about that and it obviously helps people to make their life convenient. During the night, especially when there is no electricity it is very helpful for going outside or toilet. Moreover if there is a patient in a family, they do not need to find candle and match when patient wants to drink water at mid night. They can just put flash light under the pillow and feel free to take it for use as if wearing eyes glasses with a person who is myopic eyes.

This picture is taken when the project manager (Phoebe) is interviewing an old person who leads a simple life in the village, and teaching him how to use it. There is a big smile of his face and he was very excited about this new thing.
These pictures are taken when the recipients are signing their fingerprints on the paper which shows that they have received these flash lights.
People are very curious about these new things and they push each other trying to take a little space for having glance.

Frankly speaking, we will never forget your help; we really appreciate you great help. These flash lights are not only easy to use, but also gives us light in the darkness in particular. Also it old people to lead their way when they go to the toilet at night. All the villagers are very appreciated about that.
