Brief Description of Implementation
This project was completed on February 8th of 2009 during the Spring Festival of Chinese New Year. I, project manager got 50 solar flashlights in total, all of them were distributed to four kinds of groups: elders, herders, farmers, and students in Mani che’chor Village.
There are 14 elders with the age of 65-80 in Mani che’chor Village. It is very inconvenient for elders to go to toilet which is at the outside during the night, because there is no electricity outside. Therefore, it always causes some problems such as falling down from the cement steps, or hurting by some obstacles which are putting on the way. Thus, some villagers suggest me to give one solar flashlight for each of them.
In the village, 11 households herd on the grassland. The problem is that there is no electricity in the room. The villagers always use kerosene lamp to cook and do some chores. Some rich families they use the candle to lighting, but both of them are bad for people’s health. Therefore, I gave one solar flashlight to each of them.
Some villagers are not staying on the grassland, but they have livestock which enclosure in the outside of the family’s courtyard. It is very hard for the villagers to take care the livestock during the period when livestock give birth. In the enclosure, it is very dark; you cannot see anything in it. So in order to bring a little convenience for the villagers, villager leaders, some old men and women and I, chose the eight poorest families and give one solar flashlight to each household.
In the village, 17 students with the age of 7-13 are studying in the township middle school. It is 5 kilometers away from the village. It takes 40 minutes to go to school. They need to walk to school everyday. Especially in the winter, they need to make fire in the early morning in the classroom. And they need to go to school at about 6:00AM, and there is no light on the way to school. That makes the small children not willing to go to school. Thus, I gave one solar flashlight for each of them and encourage them to study hard.

She is sixty eight years old and because one of her eyes is not working well, she fall down from the cement steps several times which was built in front of the room during the night. Therefore, she got the one flashlight. This picture is showing that I, the project manager is teaching her how to use the solar flashlight, and she is trying to use the flashlight properly.

This is one of the beneficiaries; and he is putting the fingerprint on the sheet to show that he received one solar flashlight.

These four people are practicing how to use flashlight and were very curious to see such a small flashlight can bring the benefit to the people and do not need to buy the battery.
