Project location: Metog Lungwa Sholma village (Xiamei in Han), Qiaqia Town, Gonghe county, Hainan Tibetanous Prefecture, Qinghai Province.

Brief Description of Implementation
This project was implemented from April 30th to May 10th 2008. to the goal was to provide 44 flashlights to 44 households in Metog Lungwa Sholma village. 44 households benefited from this project. These families are the poorest in the village, having negative cash income. Some members of these families live in summer pastures for about four months without electricity.  Summer pastures do not have electricity because they are far from Metog Lungwa village. They usually use oil-lamps there to do night time housework, such as washing or sewing clothes, or cooking.

Additionally, sometimes villagers have to irrigate their fields during the night. Without flashlights they sometimes meet troubles and difficulties in the field. Furthermore, old people especially need flashlights to use at night when they go to the toilet or are looking for something. So the beneficiaries warmly thanked donors and Shem Women’s Group for providing 44 solar flashlights to the 44 poorest households in Metog Lungwa Sholma village.

On May 1st, 2008, Rinchen Jyi arrived at her home.  Together with the villagers she made a list of families according to their economic condition and decided who would most benefit from receiving flashlights.  On May 2nd, 2008, Rinchen Jyi distributed these 44 flashlights to the 44 poorest families. When the villagers came to Rinchen Jyi’s home, Rinchen Jyi demonstrated to each of them how to use the flashlights. The villagers who got solar flashlights thanked Shem and the generous donors for their contribution to Metog Lungwa Sholma village.

Rinchen Jyi (project manager) visits Drolma Tserang’s home when her family is having supper early in the evening. After I she received her flashlight, she was so happy that she could not say anything. Her husband came and gave many thanks to me, the sponsor of this project, and to Shem Women’s Group. He said that before, her family used an oil-lamp to drive sheep and goats home at night when they came home very late. Now, he says that his family doesn’t need to risk the dangers of causing a fire at night.

Dear Naljor Prison Dharma Service,

The villagers of Metog Lungwa Sholma village sincerely thank Shem Women’s Group for helping our poor families. Firstly, villagers say “Thank you very much” to Shem Women’s Group from the bottom of our hearts. Renchen Jyi carried 44 flashlights and directly came to our village and gave them to the poor families in Metog Lungwa Sholma village. Of course, she faced many difficulties while carrying these flashlights to our village. We really appreciate these flashlights which Shem Women’s Group and the donor have distributed to us without us paying any money back. Formerly, we faced a lot of difficulties and troubles with unusual night work, but now, it has changed, because we can use flashlights at night without any risk and danger, especially on moonless nights. We really want to say thanks very much to the generous donors.

Respectfully

From Metog Lungwa Sholma villagers
