Tsomojyi is from Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. PRC. Currently, she is studying in the English Training Program in Qinghai Normal University for her Associate’s Degree and is majoreing in Tibetan and English.

What: To provide 44 flashlights to 44 households in Erdi Village.

Project Location: Erdi Village, Erdi Township, Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province.

Brief Description of Implementation
This project was implemented on May 1st of 2008. It was the busiest time of the year; Erdi villagers were working on their farmland, planting seeds, cultivating, fertilizing and watering their land. Thus on the day I arrived there it was very hard for me to gather all the villagers around to distribute those flashlights. Based on the situation ahead of me I firstly decided to choose 44 families out of 182 to distribute the flashlights (according to who are the poorest families in Erdi village).

With the name list in my hand I headed out visiting each family, interviewed each of them for a short time and taught them how to use that flashlight. I also demonstrated how solar flashlights are different from regular battery powered flashlights. By distributing the flashlights I learned that flashlights are essential for Erdi villagers due to their inconvenient electricity supplement. I found it especially benefited the old people and shepherds in Erdi village because in this case whenever they want to go out the flashlight will come on handy for it doesn’t need battery and can be powered by sunlight. In addition, they were also good for those farmers among the Erdi people. Sometimes if they want to go out irrigating their farmland during night the flashlight will definitely do a lot of help. Above all they were very happy with it.

Tsomo jyi is visiting one of the families in Erdi village and it happened that several other chosen villagers are also there to help that family to build houses. So here Tsomo jyi is gathering them together and briefly talking to them about the project.

She is one of the chosen villagers, her name is Kun Bzang Skyid, and the project manager, Tsomo jyi is asking her some information.

His name is Zhao shun de and he is literate till middle school and now he is partly working as a carpenter in the village.

Her name is Sgrol Ma; she is the bride of this family.

The project manager, Tsomo jyi is teaching Erdi villagers how to use the flashlights.

After distributing the flashlights Tsomo jyi is letting the villagers sign their finger prints on the paper as acknowledgement of receiving the flashlights.

His name is Stag Lha Tar. When Tsomo jyi visited he was getting sick. Here Tsomo jyi is explaining the project to him.

Tsomo jyi is teaching that old woman how to use that flashlight.

Her name is Byams Pa Skyid, she is 65 years old. When Tsomo jyi is visiting she is alone at home and Tsomo jyi is showing her how to use the flashlight.

One of the villagers is kind of surprised that he can get this flashlight freely and Tsomo is explaining to him the project.

The project manager, Tsomo jyi is teaching some village women how to use the flashlight and explaining how it works without batteries.
